Soccer Camp

Image
We are trying again to get Katelin excited about soccer. Our last attempt was a disaster. This is what she said to us, "If you take me to soccer, I won't play and I will sit the whole time!" She kept to her word, three times. The fourth time when she told us, we saved the gas money and didn't go. This morning we went to a little soccer camp with two of Katelin's little girl friends from the ward. This is how it started... This is how it ended... With a smile! It took a lot of coaxing from her friends and their mothers, but she finally went out, and loved it!

Arizona Memories

Image
We really loved being in Arizona. Here are some of the things that will be missed: Good friends for us and the kids Sarival ward Being in the Primary Presidency and teaching the 90+ kids (I especially missed it this last Sunday when I had to sit quietly in SS and RS and my new ward). Going to Diamond Back games My piano students Kye's Young men My preschool kids Lifetime Gym/swimming pool My front yard Riding our bikes from our house to Kervin's park Arizona, thank you for one of the best years of our lives!

The Happy Valley

Image
I ventured over to Macey's in Provo to pick up a few things. (I was by myself. I don't do the grocery shopping thing with kids anymore...for now anyway). I wasn't in a great mood. I was tired and grumpy. I walk in and I almost bumped into a young father sporting a BYU T-shirt pushing his three toddlers in the car shopping cart. I go to the produce section and notice that the local corn is on sale and a woman tells me where to go in the store to get the best selection. I see more BYU T-shirts and knee length shorts. I head over to buy yeast and an elderly man asks me if I could help him find corn starch. Remember I am still grumpy and I try to help him. I couldn't find it. He does, and then watches me as I put a can of bread crumbs in my cart. "Bread crumbs? It used to be what we found on the kitchen counter. Now we can buy it. In fact, my wife pulled out our canned bread crumbs from food storage just the other day. It was dated 1985." I just had to ask him if...

Lyla Saunders

My sister Heidi delivered baby Lyla (pronounced "Lie-la") stillborn on Monday afternoon. She was 27 weeks along. She didn't feel her active baby moving and went to the hospital on Saturday. Her heart had stopped beating. We left Monday afternoon and came to Utah as soon as possible. It's amazing how difficult this has been for the whole family. Heidi and Tim are really strong and are openly talking about Lyla and the whole experience. It brings peace knowing that there is a little girl waiting for them on the other side of the veil. I know Lyla will make us all a little more stronger. Maybe that was her purpose. Her graveside service will be held next Thursday.

I Hate and Love Moving

I hate saying "goodbye" and I have had to do it too many times. I love that I have many dear friends, in several states, that I still keep in contact with. I've meat some pretty awesome people. I will miss the people here in Arizona dearly. --Edit on June 7th-- I just hate moving. I decided I don't love it. Next time, I am paying someone to do it!!

It Was a Good Day

Image
Kanyon smiled for the first time. I am officially done teaching piano lessons. Katelin and KC were gone for three hours this morning so we could pack. We packed a lot of boxes. We sold our sofa, two love seats, and entertainment center. Go Craigslist! I got a nap. We went swimming as a family to Lifetime Fitness, the coolest gym in the world, for the last time. Got a baby sitter and went on a date Enjoyed Rubios, and the Estrella Hills community Lake. So nice to sit by a beautiful place and have an enjoyable conversation with your best friend. Took several pictures of Kye and myself. He got sick of it after awhile. It was a good day.

Move #8

Image
We LOVE to move. That is why we are doing it again for the eighth time in less than six years... Actually Kye got a job in UT County and we will be heading back to Orem the first of June. We will live in the house we moved out of a year ago. We are excited to be close to family and have Kye be in a job he is excited about. However, we have met some wonderful people that we will have a hard time leaving. (The heat is not a friend we will miss. It was 110 degrees on Monday). Onward we will go, and hopefully the moving trend will slow a little in the future...

One-Month-Old

Image
Kanyon is one-month-old today. He brings such joy to our home. Monday we went to the Dr. and he is 9 lbs 9 oz and 21 inches long. He has gained 3 pounds and grown 2 inches since birth.

Happy Mother's Day

Image
What a great Mother's Day this was! Beyond the delicious meals and gifts is the blessing that I am able to have children. Many women would give anything to be up in the middle of the night holding a crying baby. Sometimes I take being able to bear children for granted. I am also grateful for my mother who raised me. That wasn't easy ;)

Joy is Where You Find it

Image
This morning Katelin and I were watching Kanyon as he was opening his eyes and looking around. Katelin tells me, "Mom, guess who I love the best. Kanyon." I watched her as she giggled and smiled and kissed him a million times and I felt such joy and love. How blessed we are to have one another. It doesn't matter where we live, just how. When you take the time to find joy in anything, you'll find it. Katelin made me this card and put it under my pillow while I was napping. The first picture is a ladybug, butterfly and dragonfly. The second picture is she in I in the back yard. I am giving her a homemade card and a ladybug. Third is her telling me she loves me, and last is Kye and I in front of the temple right after we were married. She drew a veil on me and a bow tie on Kye. I think Katelin finds joy in the simplest forms - the ones I often forget. The fact that our family is eternal, and through serving each other we are happy. Thanks for yet another valuable lesson...

Kids

I was uploading the new pictures from my camera today and found a surprise. Katelin had taken these pictures of KC and his favorite sword. Good job Bug! I love playing with the Picasa software from Google. Why I haven't used it until now...I have no idea. Download it, it's free and very easy to use. This picture doesn't have the best lighting, but I love the pose. I will have to try it again with the light hitting their faces just right. You wonder what Kanyon is thinking...

Woman of the Year

Image
...and the award goes to my mom, Joyce. Her plane landed the same time Kanyon was born. She stayed for eleven days. She cooked, cleaned, played with the kids, grocery shopped, changed 100 diapers, and stayed up with the baby to let me sleep. My family is so grateful for her help. I am so grateful for her help. I don't know what I would have done if she didn't come. (Well, I know what I would have done, and it would have been a lot harder.) My dad came the last four days. It was great. I love my parents. They are the best!

KC-isms

-First thoughts on Kanyon- Dad: "What do you think of the new baby?" KC: "He's nice" Dad: "What do you want to say to Kanyon?" KC: "Thank you." -Questions and comments for mom- "Mom, are there babies growing in your bra now?" "Mom, your belly feels just like Jell-O." "Mom, what are you feeding Kanyon with? Can I please see it just one time?"
