Happy Birthday KC!

Christmas Festivities

Image
Christmas was really exciting! We started new traditions this year. On Christmas Eve at Uncle Dave's, all the kids decorated Christmas cookies for Santa. At my parents house we held a Christmas day talent program. It was neat. Everyone participated. I know everyone's favorite was a tie between Heidi and my duet and Jason's "Limerick and interpretive dance". Heidi and I have been playing "Sleigh Ride" every Christmas since I was a sophomore in HS. Some people in my family are starting to protest against it. Grandma Joyce made costumes for all and we acted out the nativity story. Afterward we headed over to be with the Nordfelt's. We had our annual Prime Rib dinner. Kirtly is the master meat maker. He should be on the Food Network for one of their BBQ cook offs. He would win, hands down! The little boys got toy shotguns from grandpa. They spent the morning pretending to shoot clay pigeons. They are grandpa's future hunting buddies. Overall, our ...

Old Friends

Image
Kye and I both had opportunities to see great friends from Highschool. Friday night we met in Heber with some of Kye's old friends. Saturday afternoon we met at my mom's house with some of my old friends. It is always so good to see old friends. You know they are good friends when you can get together once a year and it feels like you saw them yesterday. Matt, Kye and Tony-need I say more? Matt and Jordan with Fischer and Sophie; Tony and Amy with Sydney and Dante; Kye and myself with our three. Tristie and her family, Glenn and his family, Justin Cherry, Sara Borg and the little girl she nannies, and my family. Just like old times, Joyce had a feast prepared for all my friends. Hopefully we can get together next year as well!

Ugly Christmas Sweaters

Image
When you got it, you got it. And I have it. People couldn't keep their eyes off of me. Even the waitress agreed...I had the worst sweater at the party last night, and I won the free slice of chocolate mousse pie. It was fun to be with friends, eat delicious food, wear ugly sweaters, and exchange white elephant Christmas presents. Thanks for putting it together Lacey! And thanks to you (you know who you are) who let me borrow your sweater :) Here I am with my pie and sweater in all of their glory. Here we are. We couldn't find a sweater for Kye so I FORCED him to pin this penguin on his shirt. He had it covered for most of the night. Kye picked the best white elephant. Nate's old cast from the 6th grade. Nate broke his arm trying to dunk the basketball. He saved it just for this moment in the future. Other gifts included: expired rogaine, an edition of the Millard County cookbook, used lotion, Kenny Rogers Christmas DVD, and an old bar of soap. Here we are! Nate and Lace...

Dirty. Rotten. Baby!

Image
Look at this kid! Now don't let this cute smile fool you! Behind that two-toothed grin is a little monster who likes to scream every night. It's not your usual scream either. It's a high pitched, I-can't-believe-he-still-has-a-voice kind of scream that gets under your skin after one minute of it, and his lasts at least an hour. I am not exaggerating. I've been sick for about 10 days now. Yesterday morning I was feeling a little better, but towards the evening I was feeling gross again. I couldn't fall asleep until midnight due to coughing and dry throat. At 12:30, Kanyon starts screaming. Around 1:15 I finally get up and nursed him. We have let him cry it out for the past two weeks, but last night I couldn't handle it anymore. I asked him in a stern voice why he insists on screaming every night. AH! The kid eats all day long. I feed him lean proteins and a variety of other things that I am sure will hold him over. I always top him off with ...

Gingerbread Houses and Santa

Image
Every year we get to go to my mom's to make gingerbread houses and to visit with Santa. The kids are unusually off-the-wall and giddy. Their excitement fades to fear when Santa walks in, shakes his jingle bells, and hollers "HO HO HO!" It's funny to see the tears. They get over it quickly, however, when it comes time to tell Santa what's on their list. Katelin was picked to be Rudolph this year. You gotta love the blinking nose! I love this picture. Merry Christmas everyone!

Fashion Statement

Image
Katelin has had a mind of her own, when it comes to fashion (actually, when it comes to anything) since she was one. It was a battle I gave up fighting years ago. Some days are much better than others. I think this conglomeration looked pretty cute.

Thanksgiving

Image
I married into the typical huge Mormon family. (So different from the 15 or less people I spent Thanksgiving with growing up.) This is my mother-in-law's family-and it's only her siblings and their predecessors. There were even some missing. My father-in-law's side is just as big or bigger! Hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving!

My friend Heidi just emailed me this article. I love it. I wanted to share it with all. Just what in the heck do we do all day?

Great News for my Sweet KC

Image
I have avoided posting anything about KC this past week. He was in a lot of pain. He was limping and crawling around because his left leg was hurting so bad. We had some X-rays done and they found a lesion on his left femur. (lesion is anything that is not anatomically supposed to be there.) The Dr. didn't rule out the possibility of bone cancer. The pain got worse and then his Pediatrician thought it was a bone infection. After going to the lab and having blood drawn from both arms it wasn't that either. We were referred to a Orthopedist who specializes in bone cancer. All weekend long I had this sick feeling in my gut. "What if my kid has cancer?" We met with the Orthopedist at Primary Children's today and KC does not have bone cancer. The pain isn't related to the lesion on his femur. He said that one out of three kids have lesions. They took X-rays of his pelvis and hips and found nothing wrong. So for the next six months, we need to keep a journal and re...

Katelin's Tooth

Image
In September Katelin had two cavities filled. These past couple of weeks she has been telling me that her tooth really hurts. I told her it was fine and that it was just what happens when you get a filling. Well, yesterday and the day before she was crying a lot because of her tooth. So I finally took her in. The X-ray showed that her filling was touching the nerve. So to make a long story short, she had a pulpotomy and crown done yesterday early evening. She woke up this morning and looked like she had her wisdom teeth taken out. Luckily, our dentist is a good friend of our cousin. So I called my cousin bright and early this morning to get his cell number because something was obviously wrong. I got a hold of him and luckily, again, he was working today in an office twenty miles away. I drove up there and it was decided that he needed to pull the tooth. The infection had gone down all the way into the end of the root. He really had to yank that thing out. It was the biggest baby tooth...

Halloween

Image
Oops, I forgot to post about Halloween. Katelin was a princess. KC was Prince Derrick as a Spiderman vampire. (Who says you can't be three things). Kanyon was a pumpkin but he is the third child and for some reason I don't have a picture of him. I was the loser in the last election. Kye was himself with an Elvis wig-for a few minutes. Halloween was way too long this year. AKA too many parties. I don't like that I can already hear Christmas music on the radio. Have a happy weekend!

Vote

Image
I voted today...Did you? (No, I am not going to tell you who I voted for). 11/5/08-Well, Now I don't have a Halloween costume for the next four years. I guess I will have to be Snow White. Again.

SUU Roomate weekend

Image
My old roommates and I had a little get away down in St. George over the weekend. It was so fun! When we got there Friday night, we talked until 2 AM. I thought I was going to be sick I was so tired. Saturday we hung out in the room, shopped, went to the temple, and saw Odyssey Dance Theatre's Thriller at Tuacahn. Those dancers were amazing. Hopefully it is not another eight years before we all get together again!

The Deer Hunt

Image
You might be a redneck if you... Have a family picture that looks like this: or this... and you do activities such as these: Well, whatever you want to call us, just know that we had good ol' fashion fun! Lots of food, family, and cabin talk. We even saw two bobcats up close and personal. Can't wait until next year! ** as a disclaimer, Kye does not hunt. We go up to be with family.

6 Months

Kanyon is six months now. He is such a joy to have around! His laugh is infectious and his smile will brighten anyone's day.

Update

Image
Here it what has been going on: Last week Kye was gone for five days. I made my mom come and sleep over. We stayed up late watching BBC's North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. Loved it. While here, my naughty mother feed Kanyon some pancakes and he loved it. Monday, for FHE we went for a hay ride and to a pumpkin patch to pick pumpkins. Don't you love the picture of KC's snotty nose and the one of our family on the moving tractor? We put these ridiculous pajamas on Kanyon that made him look like a smurf. We get a good laugh every time. He even got a new nickname from KC: Kanyon the Blue Banyon. Or in short, Banyon Boy. Kanyon loves to wrestle with KC. He just giggles and makes a loud noise while they play. He is too cute I can't handle it. I fell down the stairs yesterday. I'm serious. I was taking down a big suitcase and was wearing socks. Somehow I fell forward past the last five stairs and landed right on my left knee. (It doesn't make any sens...

HELLO Gorgeous!

Image
I have been waiting for this moment for almost two years now. I missed this last year and I cried. Several times. Fall has always been my favorite time of year. I love all the colors and the smells and the sounds that the outdoors have to offer. There is nothing that makes me happier. There is nothing more glorious than to witness this time of year. Alright, enough of the passion... Our friend gave us this fabulous idea: Go up to Sundance and ride the ski lift to see the beautiful fall colors. It is only $8 for adults. Kids 6 and under are free. You ride all the way to the top, walk around and enjoy the splendor, then you hop back on and ride down. It was marvelous. I recommend to all. Even our friends in AZ. Leave tomorrow and come see this. The saguaros will be there when you get back. (So will the 100+ temperature). Here are some photos. You gotta love the family pictures where most of us look retarded. Kye saves the photo. There are smiles all around because this makes us so happ...
